Description
This Sautéed Cabbage & Apple recipe combines sweet apples with savory cabbage and onions, seasoned with poppy seeds, creating a delicious and colorful side dish perfect for any meal.
INGREDIENTS
Serves 4 people

Red Cabbage | 1 1/3 head | small, chopped |
Apples | 2 2/3 | small, sliced, gala or another crisp variety |
Yellow Onion | 1 1/3 | medium, chopped |
Poppy Seeds | 1 1/3 tbsp | |
Olive Oil | 1 1/3 tbsp | |
Salt | 1 1/3 tsp | or to taste |
Pepper | several grinds |
PREPARATION
- Heat olive oil in a cast iron or a wide, heavy-bottomed saucepan and add onion. Cook over medium heat until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Add cabbage, season with salt & pepper, and saute for another 15 minutes, until it begins to wilt.
- Add apples and stir occasionally, aiming to keep the apple slices in tact, but softened and browned.
- Add poppy seeds and stir again, so that they toast lightly, then serve.
