InTUNE Training is a revolutionary approach to a physical activity. It’s different than most exercise programs. Here are some important details about it.
Overview
InTUNE stands for Integrative and opportunistic training. The daily workout program provides a useful way to integrate movement into and throughout your day, and do so when the opportunity strikes!
You Have Until Day's End To Complete…
Your window to complete the workout is from when you wake up in the morning to when you go to bed at night. You have the entire day to get the work done. You can do the work all at once, or spread it out into little ‘exercise snacks.’
Opportunistic Mindset
Over a few weeks of doing this training method, you start to see your day differently. A day becomes filled with opportunities for exercise snacks.
You can do a few reps:
- During your morning routine as you get ready for your day.
- After you finish some work and want to take a short break.
- Right before lunch.
- Etc, etc
It's an entirely different way to think about exercise, yet moving throughout the day is how our ancestors moved. It’s not only a healthy pattern, but it can simplify your daily routine by giving you body weight exercises you can do anywhere, whenever you have a minute (literally).
Number of Workouts
There are 106 workouts in this program.
How It Works
Each workout is comprised of one-to-several movements. Each movement has either a repetition (rep) goal or time goal, like so:
By Reps
- Sit-ups: 50 reps
- Pike press: 30 reps
- Lunges: 80 reps
By Time
- Wall sits: 120 secs
- Plank: 180 secs
What If I Don't Recognize One Of The Exercises?
A GIF image is provided next to each exercise to demo the movement.
Examples 1
- Snowboarder: 80 reps
Example 2
- Mountain Climbers: 80 reps
Workouts Are the Same Size (and Small)
All of the workouts in the program are about the same size, so you know what to expect when you're thinking about including an inTUNE workout in your day. And they are about the same size as the seven-minute workout.
What if I can't do a few push up (or another exercise listed)!
Modify any exercise to make it easier or harder. Can't do a full push-up? Do them them from your knees or a counter. Find some version of the scheduled exercise you can do with good form and do that.
Since I started InTUNE Training in addition to my yoga practice I’ve been surprised by how many chances to move I find in my day - I trained myself to react when the opportunity strikes. Exercise is no longer something I must to plan my whole day around. It's liberating. - Vanessa Phillips
Integrating Movement Into Your Day Is a Skill
Including InTUNE Training as a part of your movement practice doesn't mean you can't do other types of exercise. Here are three cases for how InTUNE can work for you:
- I mostly use InTUNE Training and daily steps to get physical activity into my life.
- I play soccer on the weekends but add InTUNE Training into my weekdays to get more physical activity between my weekend matches.
- I focus on lifting weights when I'm in my routine but I use InTUNE Training when I travel for work. Etc, etc.
Change Your Movement Pattern
Before doing InTUNE, a person might find that they have a few opportunities in their week in which to move. Below in this top graphic, you see a rather typical pattern of movement for someone who exercises regularly. There are some days with exercise and other days with none.
Note: The bubbles represent the time and size of movement bout for a particular day.
With access to InTUNE Training, notice how the person’s movement pattern changes. Exercise is taking place more frequently in the and across the days, but in smaller bouts. This creates a more dynamic movement pattern for an individual, which is one of the reasons why InTUNE training is such an interesting and unique workout program to have access to. Yes, do other things that you enjoy, but also utilize InTUNE to make you exercise rhythm more dynamic.
Note: Between the first and second graphic, the total amount of exercise is the same, but the pattern of activity is different.
Creator
Dr. Dan Pardi, founder of humanOS, created the In-Tune Training program and is an avid practitioner himself. During his PhD, Dan faced time constraints but sought a way to move more like his ancestors, which inspired the creation of this program. He quickly became a strong advocate for its benefits.
Through InTUNE Training, Dan noticed a consistent surplus of energy. Training five days a week, he felt both energized and strong. Over time, his approach has evolved—sometimes focusing primarily on InTUNE, while at other times blending it with other movement styles he enjoys. However, he ensures that every day includes some form of movement (except on dedicated rest days).
