Introduction
The Ideal Weight Program calculates your personal protein target to help control hunger during weight loss.
Below are common questions about your protein target, and how to meet it consistently.
Why is the protein target important?
Research shows protein is key for controlling hunger, especially during weight loss.
Scientists believe we evolved a specific appetite for protein, since amino acids are essential for life and historically scarce compared to fats and carbs.
Unfortunately, modern diets often "dilute" protein with excess fats and carbs, leading us to overeat to meet our protein needs. Clinical trials confirm this: participants eating 30% protein diets naturally consumed 441 fewer calories per day than those on 15% protein diets.
Your personalized protein target calculated by humanOS is designed to optimize this appetite-controlling effect, making your weight loss journey more manageable.
What determines my protein target?
Your personal protein target is calculated using an extensive formula we designed, based on published research in scientific journals, that takes into account your:
- Height
- Weight
- Age
- Gender
- Body fat percentage
Do I need to hit my exact protein target every day?
No, you don't need to hit your target exactly each day. The goal is to get close and meet your target on average over time. Some days you might fall a little short, other days you might go over.
What if I am away from home and can’t check nutrition labels?
This is where Protein Units come in handy. They're a practical estimation tool for when you're eating out.
One Protein Unit = approximately 6 grams of protein, or 1 ounce of meat/fish/poultry/tofu
For quick estimates:
- 1 whole egg = 2 units (12g protein)
- 1 cup yogurt or cottage cheese = 4 units (24g protein)
- ½ cup lentils or beans = 3 units (18g protein)
How do I calculate my protein target in humanOS?
We have this extensive calculation embedded into our Ai bot!
Members who have access to the bot are walked through a Q and A session by the bot to collect the information it needs to calculate your daily target for you.
